Children of The 21th Century

If we look back at the children before 21th century, normally they love to play out side with their friends. What they had in mind is only having fun with their friends at home and school. But with the children of today it is not the case.

Children here is defined as those between toddlers and teenagers, namely aged 6 to 12, which is being carefree. What happens to the children of 21th Century?

Let us examine the children around us. How many of them still love playing outside as appose to playing video games or browsing the Internet at home? And what about their social skill? Try to make a light conversation with them and they will get bored easily, or worst, they will feel uncomfortable because they feel as if they were treated as a baby. Generally, they will show their defiance of this treatment. They want to be treated in the same way as an adult.

The behavior owes a large part to technology. Children’s behavior and thinking are particularly fragile unlike those of adults. But there are upsides and downsides of technology.

One of the advantages to the children is it helps them a lot in their studies. For example, the Internet enables them to access a part of mankind knowledge of the world in seconds. Similarly, video games benefits children, having them handle complex thinking. Furthermore passionate children might be encourage to develop video games of their own. Thomas Suarez, a 12-year-old nominated as the youngest IOS Application developer and owner of carrots.com, spoke at the TEDx conference that he started developing application because of the high demand for ideal video game from his friends already familiar with his ability.

On the downside, technology might contribute to children becoming antisocial and self-centered. For example, prolonged video game’s playing time, owing to parent’s lack of control can impede the development of the children’s psychosocial skills.

Conclusion of the essay: Parents control is very important to form children’s behavior.
